My #1 cultivar from Grindhouse this release, and personal favorite smokes this year. The Gelato MInts and Gelatti are close, but there are slight differences that made me like the Gelato Mints more. That could change with future drops, the Gelatti nugs have a really nice purple to them.

Smell:
Sweetness from the Gelato #33 that is secondary to a really nice bright, fresh mint, and kush smell.  For me the draw is the menthol/mint that gets combined with the #33, and showcases the Kush Mints’ assertiveness when it comes to this cross. The sweetness isn’t very strong in this cross, compared to the Tranquil Forest Gelato #33 that smells, sweet, tangy, some creaminess, and berries.

Look/Breakdown:
Light to dark green leave on the outside, with an occasional purple leaf. The buds are light but don’t be deceived, they are dense. Generous coating of trichomes and bright orange hairs. Underneath the leaves are a lighter green to purple. Echoing the same purple consistency across all four cultivars from Grindhouse.
Upon grinding the buds I noticed more sweetness, gas, and mint come out.
Great nug structure, the buds are dense but break apart by hand or grinder.

Flavor:
Nice taste of mint and sweet kush that lasts a minute or two. I found the mint after taste to be really pleasant part of this smoking experience. The flavor starts out minty, then starts to turn earthy as I exhaled.

How it smokes:
Smooth clean pulls that stung my nostrils, but they didn’t cause any coughing fits.

Effects:
Strong head and body high from the #33, with an Indica leaning feel from the Kush Mints. The effects kicked in within the first two pulls with a tingling feeling in my temples, eyes, and back of head. My eyes lowered a little bit, and then I recognized the body high that relaxed my arms and hands and fingers, as I was typing this.
I found the mental activity and focus to be a bonus, compared to the Gelatti that tends to put me in the direction of relaxing, chilling, and sleep (depending on the dosage). Even though I physically felt very relaxed, my mind was working, and thoughts coherent. Unlike Motorbreath #15 that created a very active and introspective internal conversation, the Gelato Mints kept me focused on writing this blog post.
It took me about 15-35 minutes to smoke a bowl because I forget that I’m smoking, and got lost in the show I was watching, music I was listening to, review I was writing.

Thoughts:
Gelato Mints is my favorite offering from Grindhouse, and a top 5 smoke so far this year. The grow, cure, smell, look, and flavor are all excellent. I wasn’t sure how the Kush Mints would effect the Gelato #33 smell and flavor, and it seems like it had the dominant genetics. It’s hard to deny that Mint is the dominant smell and flavor, with some sweetness from the #33. Gelato Mints and Gelatti compliment each other very well, but smoke Gelatti second because it will give you more of a body high.
I admit that the Gelatti is very very close to the Gelato Mints, and within the next couple rounds take over; there are some people who already have Gelatti above the Gelato Mints. The difference in the head high, and how it makes me focus on whatever has my attention, while being relaxed enough to sit there for up to an hour at a time makes me rank it higher than Gelatti. The bud structure and purple leaf density goes to the Gelatti though.
I think Gelato Mints is a great example of what happens when the strong 50/50 high of the #33 mixes with a slightly more Indica dominant effects of Kush Mints. What’s created is a fantastic strong and bright, sweet, minty smell and flavor that leaves a nice after taste from the smoke.
